WATCH: Responding to David Lammy’s Urgent Question on Court Cases

Yesterday (20 January) I was asked an Urgent Question on our courts. I made clear:

  • Outstanding Crown Court cases down by 8,000 compared to Labour
  • HMCTS budget up by £200million
  • 290 operational, covid safe, Crown Court jury trial rooms
  • Magistrates outstanding caseload down

We have also invested £142million upgrading our court buildings and tech. And £110million to increase capacity. 1,600 extra staff and newly installed technology is allowing for 20,000 remote hearings per week. More details here

I was also asked to address what we’re doing to protect victims of domestic abuse. We are always making sure that domestic violence victims are a top priority, and they receive the quick protection they need.
