The Government has laid out its opt-out system for organ and tissue donation. Organ donation saves lives, and this change is expected to save hundreds of lives each year.
There are 40,000 people alive today in England because they received an organ donation. However, is still a shortage of donors and so many people die each year who could have been saved.
Figures show that around 80% of people when asked would be willing to become organ donor, but only 37% are on the organ donor register.
By changing the system, but still giving people the option to opt out of being organ donors if they wish, around 700 lives are likely to be saved each year.
