Residents swamped by traffic from Kenley Water Treatment Works

The Allmat building site at the Kenley Water Treatment Works has been operating illegally, without proper planning consent for the type of commercial operation that they have been operating.

Allmat has been using a section of the site for the storage of building materials and a concrete hard standing has been created to enable ease of access for HGV delivery lorries and for fork lift trucks to maneuver on site.

However, the use of this site has intensified of late causing a lot of noise and dust nuisance to local residents and causing them considerable disturbance – especially if they wish to have their windows open or enjoy their gardens.

Council officers have investigated residents’ complaints and it has come to light that this site has been operating illegally as there is no planning consent in place for this type of commercial operation. A retrospective application has now been lodge the details for which are above. The detailed documents can be viewed online via Croydon Council’s website: www.croydon.gov.uk

I have been to visit the site and neighbouring houses to listen to the concerns of the local families living there. Residents have raised important concerns with me about the noise and dust levels that the HGVs and diesel powered forklifts have created and also regarding the impact that these vehicles will have on the roads.

There is also cause for concern that there is a loss of flood plain drainage due to the site having concreted over a large surface area.

Councillor Steve Hollands and I have written officially to the Council, asking them to take these points into consideration in their report.

However, it’s not too late for you to have your voice heard. Should you wish to comment on this application you may do so via the Council’s website www.croydon.gov.uk or in writing to:
