We know that many new homes are needed, especially for younger people trying to get on the property ladder for the first time. However, for far too long in Croydon, family homes in our green suburb have made way for flats that are better suited to town centres and brownfield sites. This has both changed the character of our area and driven up prices of much needed family homes.
That’s why I am pleased that a proposal to demolish an existing family home at 10A The Drive and develop to a three/four storey block of six flats, along with parking and landscaping, was refused permission by officers on 30th November.
I am delighted planning decisions are now being properly made – either by the Planning Committee or officers – after careful consideration and with respect to well-reasoned objections. This proposed development was found to result in poor quality accommodation and, owing to its size, represent a significant overdevelopment. Thank you to those who have joined me in fighting to preserve the character of our area.
