Kenley Telecom Mast Planning Update

Dear Resident,

Last week I supported local residents in objecting to a proposal for the replacement of the existing 8m telecom pole with a 20m one – hosting 9 new antenna – outside St Barnabas Church.

Whilst I am generally supportive of proposals which will improve the local telecoms network, this scheme was just too big for this site. I shared residents’ concerns that such a significant increase in the height of the telecom mast along with the associated additional street furniture, would be harmful to the visual appearance of the street-scene and the character of the area.

I am pleased to let you know that the application has been refused by Croydon Council. The reason given by the Council for not approving the application is as follows:

“The proposed monopole and cabinets would cause significant harm to the visual amenities of the street scene by virtue of their siting, size and design, and would result in an excess of visual clutter.”

I hope that you will find this quick update helpful.

With kind regards,
