I wanted to provide a short update on Coulsdon’s new Medical Centre, which I continue to push forward alongside Executive Mayor of Croydon Jason Perry and all of Coulsdon’s councillors, Ian Parker, Luke Shortland, Mario Creatura, Margaret Bird and Nikhil Sherine Thampi.
I am delighted to see diggers finally on site and that construction has started.
After previously securing formal confirmation that Coulsdon’s new Centre will go ahead, providing over 35,000 GP appointments – as well as securing Croydon Council planning approval – I am as disappointed as local residents at the delays and have been pressing our local NHS to get on with it as fast as possible.
While the NHS had previously moved onto the site and begun soft works such as fencing, vegetation clearance and detailed design development, independent structural surveyors unfortunately identified an issue with an unstable boundary wall, owned by the adjacent nursery playground, with a risk of collapse from any excavation works.
I am pleased that structural design to strengthen the wall has now been concluded, submitted to surveyors, alongside the NHS appointing the specialist piling contractor and arranging road closures to install site entrance access. Having diggers now on site is great news
Despite this delay, I am pleased to see things now moving forward, and I will be visiting very soon to see progress and get an update on the selection of the GP practice that will run the Centre and the specific services that can be provided here as a GP Plus arrangement.
