Coulsdon Medical Centre Update

Many residents will be aware of the long-standing campaign to get a new medical centre established in Coulsdon on the car park of the old CALAT site. This is something that I have been pushing for over several years as the local MP together with Croydon Mayor Jason Perry and local Coulsdon councillors Ian Parker, Mario Creatura, Luke Shortland, Margaret Bird and Nikhil Thampi.  We wouldn’t be where we are now without this team effort including local residents’ associations and groups.

A new medical centre is vital given the growing population and to ensure people can be seen promptly. There is already a new NHS renal centre on the site offering dialysis, which is very welcome for local patients with kidney problems.

Following recent questions about the progress of the project for the new medical centre, we received assurances last week that the national NHS, local NHS and Council all want to see the vital new medical centre happen.

We have been lobbying the Government particularly for funding.  You will see from the letter above, dated this month, that we have been successful in securing the £9.8m required to buy the site and build the centre.

The NHS are bidding for the site and I hope very much that they are successful. All of us involved in campaigning for this centre will be pressing the relevant parties this week to try to make this happen as soon as possible. I will share further updates as soon as I have them.
