Application to replace family home with flats in Kenley

There is an application to demolish a family home in Kenley and to replace it with a 3 storey block of flats. You can read my official opposition to the application below. Please do share this so that as many people as possible are aware of the planning mess in our area.

Re: 20/05414/OUT

Demolition of existing bungalow and redevelopment to provide a 3 storey building containing 9 apartments including parking, landscape and amenity areas (OUTLINE)

88 Welcomes Road Kenley CR8 5HE

I am writing to lodge my objection to the above outline planning application. My reasons are as follows:

  1. The proposal to erect a block of flats, with 9 new homes spread over 3 storeys, would be a significant overdevelopment and intensification of this site due to its size, height, density, bulk and massing
  2. The contemporary design is completely out of character and would be more suitable to an urban location rather than this green semi-rural site
  3. It fails to respect Welcomes’ Road Green Grid protection status
  4. The increased massing and frontage would be overbearing and detrimental to the street-scene
  5. Concreting over of biodiverse-rich garden space and the loss of natural vegetation including mature hedges and shrubs
  6. Detrimental impact on local biodiversity and natural habitat
  7. Loss of 6 mature trees
  8. Inadequate parking arrangements for residents and visitors
  9. Impractical disabled access
  10. The proposal would be detrimental to the amenity of the residents of neighbouring properties due to visual impact, overlooking and loss of privacy
  11. Poor refuse arrangements
  12. Lack of any acknowledgement of the cumulative impact of this intensive development upon the local infrastructure such as parking, schools, access to NHS healthcare
