There is an application to demolish a South Croydon family home to replace it with a block of flats. You can read my official opposition to the application below. Please do share this so that as many people as possible are aware of the planning mess in our area.
Re: 20/04307/FUL
Demolition of existing dwelling and erection of 8 residential units in a 3 storey building with associated parking, cycle and refuse storage
56 West Hill South Croydon CR2 0SA
I am writing to lodge my objection to the above planning application. My reasons are as follows:
- The proposal would be a significant overdevelopment of this site due to its size, height, siting, footprint, density, bulk and massing
- The design, height and type of building proposed is completely out of character with the traditionally designed properties within the surrounding area and will be detrimental to the street-scene
- The flank walls are bland and uninteresting adding to the unattractive massing effect
- The proposal fails to respect the local development pattern, layout and siting and completely dominates the plot; neighbouring properties are generously spaced and respect the trees and green character of the area
- The proposed building fails to respect the sensitive location of Croham Hurst Woods, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), which is immediately opposite the proposed site – especially as all 18 trees are likely to be lost as these create a natural green bridge from the Woods towards West Hill
- Detrimental impact on the amenities of adjoining occupiers due to the dominance, size and height of the proposal; loss of privacy and overlooking
- Concreting over of garden space and the loss of vegetation and natural habitat
- Lack of usable amenity space for occupiers of the new development
- Insufficient car parking provision
- Lack of consideration of any impact on local infrastructure: eg schools, GPs, drainage, parking
This is just one example of the planning madness that has been going on in our area. The Labour run Council, and its wholly owned subsidiary, Brick by Brick, have a policy of destroying family homes to build flats in the south of the borough. I will continue to oppose these applications. You can keep up to date with this and other issues at chrisphilp.com
