I am delighted to be able to report that two more terrible planning applications have recently been rejected in the south of the Borough. One application was to turn a family house into a 12-bedroom HMO (i.e. House in Multiple Occupation), and the other was to knock down a nice family home and build nine flats in its place. Local residents, the local councillors and I all strongly opposed these applications, and I am delighted that we were successful.
Protecting the green character of our neighbourhood and protecting family homes is very important to me. I have worked closely with Mayor Jason Perry and local Conservative councillors to ensure that over the last four years, the approach to planning has changed – green spaces and family homes are now protected. Of course, we need flats as well – but they should go on brownfield sites and in places like Croydon town centre. Green spaces, the green belt and family homes in our neighbourhood should be protected. And now this is happening.

These decisions show common sense has been returned to planning in Croydon.
I will continue working alongside Executive Mayor Jason Perry and local Conservative councillors to stand up for local residents, protect family homes and green spaces and ensure that Croydon South remains a green and pleasant area to live in.
