Residents in South Hampstead joined the Conservative team to oppose Labour’s plans for the High Speed 2 Tunnel going under parts of Belsize, Swiss Cottage, Kilburn and Queen’s Park. The tunnel would cause months of construction chaos for residents. The Conservatives oppose the plans for the rail-link to travel into central London via the proposed route and would instead like the route to link with the new Crossrail route at Heathrow.
Chris Philp said “It makes no sense to have two huge rail projects being constructed but not link them together. I oppose the Labour Government’s plan because it does not address our national needs and would impact upon local residents heavily”
Shadow Chancellor George Osbourne visited Hampstead and Kilburn to campaign for change. This seat is a key marginal that the Conservatives must win to form a government and avoid a damaging hung parliament. During the visit George meet with business owners in Hampstead to talk about how the Conservatives are the only party with the fresh ideas and vision to tackle the problems our economy faces.

Ed Fordham tweeted today "More Tory lies as they attempt to suggest I want a deal with Labour - total nonsense. Vote Lib Dem get Lib Dem"
On 9th February 2010 Ed Fordham was interviewed by the NW6 blog. It is worth quoting two paragraphs from this so that fair-minded people can make up their minds:
"There's a great deal of speculation at the moment on what would happen in the event of a hung Parliament. On his hopes for his party at the coming election, with a wry smile, Ed acknowledges, "the only answer I'm probably supposed to give is a Lib Dem majority. But if no party has a majority, then there will be intensive negotiations based, I hope, on policy, as in Scotland, where the Lib Dems hammered out an agreement with the Scottish Labour Party."
But on a personal level, he makes it quite clear where he stands: "ABC - anyone but Conservatives." "

Ed's words speak for themselves. He wants Tory votes but want to use them to back Labour.
Chris Philp took questions at the "Ask the Climate Question" hustings and spoke about what a Conservative Government would do to protect our planet.

Chris Philp and Shadow Housing Minister Grant Shapps visited the Chalcot Eastate to meet local residents and hear their views. The issues discussed included the future of Council housing, reducing waiting lists and the protection of residents' tenure. Grant spoke about how these concerns can be addressed by empowering residents and councils to make the decisions that are best for their specific circumstances.

Chris Philp: “This is great news for Hampstead and Belsize”
Potential weekend closures to the Northern Line have been averted by a local campaign - at least for now.
Planned signal upgrades would have closed the Northern Line for many weekends. But a local campaign has persuaded Transport for London to instead seek to do to work overnight, with work starting at 11.30pm from July this year. This will mean Hampstead residents will not be left stranded at the weekend.
Weekend closures would have left Hampstead residents stranded, and local traders would have seen substantial drops in trade - at a time when they are already struggling. Many weekend shoppers on Hampstead High Street come from other parts of London, and rely on the Northern Line to get there.
NW3 resident and campaigner Chris Philp, said: "I have held several meetings with different officials, and we have persuaded them that the weekend closure plan was a bad idea. We pressed them to do the work overnight, and I'm delighted they seem to have agreed."
Chris added "All the time we spent collecting signatures in the rain is worth it, now that TfL seem to have listened."
Shadow Health Minister Andrew Lansley was in Hampstead to launch the Conservative Party's poster campaign which highlights their support for the NHS. Andrew spoke about the Whittington and Royal Free Hospitals which have suffered under Labour because of excessive bureaucracy and centralized management. A Conservative Government would reform the NHS to put patients, doctors and nurses back in control.
Chris took part in the Ham & High's Election 2010 Hustings in Hampstead this week. Click the video below to see what Chris said about public services, the economy and transport.
