Who governs Britain? Your vote will decide

Voters in this neighbourhood will directly determine who forms the next Government. This area is now in a key marginal seat that the Conservatives must win to form a Government. Your vote will directly decide if Gordon Brown or David Cameron is the next PM.

The new Hampstead & Kilburn Parliamentary seat, which includes Brondesbury, Queens Park and Kilburn after boundary changes, is exactly the seat David Cameron's Conservatives need to win on a uniform national swing to form a Government. The new seat is a knife-edge Conservative-Labour marginal as both the recent Observer opinion poll and last year's London Assembly results (pictured) show. A vote for the Lib Dems sadly risks letting Labour in.

The Lib Dems claimed to be "within 474 votes" before the London Assembly elections last year - and then promptly lost by 6,000 votes! No doubt they will continue to make these highly dubious claims - but 40,000 real votes cast in real ballot boxes tell the real story.

About Hampstead & Kilburn

Hampstead and Kilburn is a new Parliamentary seat, covering most of the old Hampstead & Highgate and one third of the old Brent East seats. It therefore straddles the London Boroughs of Camden and Brent. About 100,000 people live in the constituency in total, of whom about 75,000 are over 18.

The wards covered are: Hampstead Town, Belsize Park, Swiss Cottage, Frognal and Fitzjohns, Fortune Green, West Hampstead, Kilburn West, Kilburn East, Queens Park and Brondesbury.

Both Brent and Camden Councils are run by a coalition containing Conservatives. The Camden seat on the Greater London Assembly is held by Conservatives and the new Hampstead & Kilburn seat is a top target for the Conservatives. Only the Conservatives can beat Labour in this new seat.
